We've been wandering all around the region to try out restaurants that might appeal to our guests. Wandering around the region is a lovely thing to do, and we recommend you do that if it fits your schedule.

We don't want to chase you out of the Mad River Valley - which is overflowing with things to do and places to eat but a) you may be planning to be outside the Valley for some other reason and need somewhere good to eat, or b) you're looking for something that isn't available here in the MRV.

So, Waterbury is a short drive halfway between here and Stowe and offers a fine variety of eateries.

Bristol is up and over Appalachian Gap on Route 17, a gorgeous drive, but not so fun if the weather is bad in the winter.

Rochester has just one place we recommend, but it's worth the 30 minute classic drive down Rt 100.

And Montpelier might be the most adorable capitol city in the entire United States. Schmooze through the shops and boutiques, then take yourself out for a fine meal or cocktail. We've only just begun a serious exploration of Montpelier's restaurants, so there are several more places that are worth checking out that we don't list here.

It is a good idea to plan ahead. A few places are best to reserve in advance.
