Wait a sec. Are you actually reading this in your kitchen or at your office or on the subway or wherever it is you typically waste your time looking at your phone or computer? Why aren't you in your car on your way to Vermont (not that we'd ever recommend looking at your device while driving, but you could be in the passenger seat reading safely). If there was ever a week to drop everything and throw whatever ski clothes and gear you can grab in a hurry, this is it. The skiing this week is off the charts, and you really should not miss it.

Remember watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? If you've never seen it, or if you saw it so long ago that you barely remember it, we recommend that you watch it, right away. There is wisdom in that old classic that is worth paying attention to. Let's consider, for example, the response Caractacus Potts gives to Truly Scrumptious when she berates him for letting his children run wild when they should have been in school: "Well, it'll give the other children a chance to catch up, won't it?"

At the risk of sounding like we don't think what you, or your children, do at work or school is important (of course it is!), is anything actually so important and so time-critical that stepping away for a day or two would cause the walls to come crashing down? What would happen, honestly, if you didn't show up for a couple of days? And don't you think it would be fair, kind even, to give your kids' classmates a chance to catch up?

With that in mind, let's talk about powder. We're now in the middle of our seventh ski season, and we have never had a day like yesterday. The snow began Sunday, and it hasn't stopped. We've got nearly two feet of the powderiest powder you can imagine. Despite all the innkeepery tasks that are calling to us, we hope to spend as much time on the hill as we can get away with. Yesterday was absolutely magical at Mad River Glen, and no doubt Sugarbush is the same (we'll be there later this morning). We can only imagine how beautiful the cross country skiing is at both Blueberry Lake and Ole's, and hopefully we'll have a chance to experience that as well.

This is definitely a week to be playing in the snow. And to be thinking about what's really important. Like giving yourself permission to be kind to yourself. We're pretty sure a visit to the Mad River Valley will result in 0% regrets and 100% battery recharge.

And lucky you! We've got rooms available during the week, and our lovely Brittany Cottage is open and waiting for you this weekend.

See you soon!

Karen and Mick

Snowy day in January.
