Am I the only one, or did you just look at your calendar and realize — what?!?! — that the July 4th weekend is less than two weeks away? How did that sneak up on me? Or on you? I'm pretty sure I know what I'll be doing that weekend (running an inn). But do you?
I want to let you know about something particularly special happening here on Saturday, July 5. We will be hosting a wellness workshop, led by local wellness expert Dr. Rob Williams. Rob is the director of Nordic Flow Academy and teaches breath training and cold plunging workshops all over the world. This is a three-hour breath workshop, in which we’ll explore balance breathing (natural micro dosing); resilience breathing (lighting our inner fire), and hormetic breathing (for cold plunging and sauna adventurers). Sound healing, snacks, and science all provided. From 1p-4pm, 7/5, fee $100 for a three-hour workshop. Email admin@featherbedinn.com or call us 802-496-7151 if you've got questions or are interested in enrolling in the program.
To round out the wellness offering, Saturday July 5 also happens to be our first outdoor yoga class of 2025. Our dear friend and inspired yoga instructor, Karen McPhillips from Salt and Sand Studios, has been guiding Featherbed guests and local yogis out on our meadow since our very first summer here. She teaches a wonderful gentle yoga class, challenging enough (trust me!) for experienced yogis but perfectly manageable for people trying yoga for the very first time. We provide scones and iced tea after the class, you provide the laughter and joy. We've got spare mats, and bug spray. This class is from 11am-12pm-ish on Saturdays out on our meadow, starting 7/5.
I have celebrated July 4th's in all sorts of places, from a boat on the Hudson River in NYC to a beach in Cape Cod to a rooftop garden overlooking Boston's Esplanade, but let me tell you nothing compares to July 4th in the Mad River Valley. The parade and street party in Warren is as Vermont-y and eccentric as you can imagine (probably more than you can imagine). Throughout the three-day weekend, Sugarbush will be pulling out all the stops, with fireworks, tons of live music, free lift rides, lawn games (including axe throwing!), and all sorts of kids activities.
And here at the Featherbed, we'll be offering a July 4th barbecue (if people are interested), and all the usual stuff {swimming pond, Nordic spa circuit, mountain biking and hiking trails, etc etc etc), and air conditioned rooms (I feel like I need to mention that today, as we languish under a heat dome).
Stay cool out there, and look after yourselves and your neighbors.
Karen
